Counting with Homer
The last pages,
That are blank,
Of a book -- are free,
As a child
(skin white, hair white, tennis-shorts white)
I marvelled at such generosity,
(a word that rhymes with free.)
From F&F and Penguin --
Fairy tales
(the Brothers Grim, others from Norway)
And poems
(Homer -- a funny name)
Gave me --
Virgin Paper
To sear and to spoil
With a child's exhaustive
Toil.
